“Being comfortable in your own skin is one of the most important things to achieve.” – Kate Mara
It sounds simple, doesn’t it? Just be yourself. But in reality, it’s something we all struggle with at different points in our lives. Who we are evolves as we move through different seasons, and sometimes, we wake up feeling like a strangers in our own lives.
I know that feeling well. When I sold my recruitment agency to Staffline, I found myself in a space where everything around me was changing, but I wasn’t comfortable with where I was. I was still in the business for a year post-sale, trying to adapt to a corporate environment that didn’t align with who I was anymore. Every day felt like climbing a mountain with no clear summit in sight. In the end, I made the difficult decision to walk away before my contract was up. It cost us financially, but the price of staying somewhere that drained me would have been far greater.
Now, I feel most like myself when I’m quite literally up a mountain or helping others climb their own (physically, mentally or from a business perspective). There’s something about the simplicity of putting one foot in front of the other, breathing in fresh air, and embracing the journey that makes everything else in life make sense. That’s where I’m truly me.
And that’s what life should be about, living authentically. When you’re comfortable in your own skin, you attract the right people, the right opportunities, and the right energy into your life. But if you’re feeling lost, disconnected, or like you’re wearing a mask just to fit in, then maybe it’s time to pause and reflect. Who are you really? What makes you feel alive?
If you’re unsure of the answer, I’d love to help you figure it out. Because life isn’t about trying to be someone you’re not; it’s about embracing exactly who you are and finding the courage to live that truth every single day.
